Sometimes a band of gum tissue attaches the lip to the gum at the neck of a tooth. This usually occurs in the front at the midline or just behind the canine teeth. The tongue can also attach behind the lower front teeth resulting in "tongue tie". Frenectomy is a simple procedure with minimal complications. Under local anesthesia, the band of tissue is removed or modified to free the lip or tongue from the gum tissue and stabilize the gum line and tooth position.
